LWV Debate on April 16 for Candidates in April 24 Special Election

The League of Women Voters will sponsor back-to-back debates on the evening of Monday, April 16 for candidates in an April 24 special election for two offices.

The League of Women Voters will sponsor back-to-back debates on the evening of Monday, April 16 for candidates in an April 24 special election for two offices: for state senator in District 37 replacing George Latimer, who is now Westchester County Executive and for County Legislative District 11 replacing James Maisano, who is now Westchester County Director of Consumer Affairs. The debates will take place in New Rochelle City Hall auditorium, 515 North Avenue and will be video recorded and replayed on government television and on demand to be announced.

The debate for state senator will begin at 6:30 pm. The county legislator debate will begin at 7:45 pm. Doors will open at 6 pm for the audience to submit questions and mingle with candidates. Questions can also be submitted to lwvnewrochelle@gmail.com.

Candidates

Candidates for state senator include Shelley Mayer, a Democratic state assemblywoman from Yonkers, and Julie Killian, Republican, a former Rye city councilwoman. The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle will sponsor the debate with co-sponsorship from the Larchmont/Mamaroneck LWV and White Plains LWV. District 37 covers all or part of Bedford, Bronxville, Eastchester, Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, North Castle, Portchester, Rye, Rye Town, White Plains, and Yonkers.

Candidates for the County Legislative District 11 seat include Terry Clements (Democrat) and James Freeman (Republican). The district covers part of New Rochelle and Pelham.
