The Forensic Unit is under the command of a Criminal Investigations Division supervisor and it performs the following services:
- Fingerprint all arrested persons
- Maintain criminal identification records
- Process crime scenes for physical evidence
- Provide photographic services to the Department for criminal and non-criminal incidents
Designated personnel assigned to the General Investigation Unit
, Property Theft Unit
, and Special Investigation Unit
are trained to perform the forensic function. These personnel are assigned to the Forensic Unit on a rotating basis to provide the Department with forensic services.
A civilian clerk is assigned to the Unit Monday through Friday during business hours to assist with fingerprinting duties and to perform various clerical tasks.
