2008 Residential Yard Waste Program

The Department of Public Works will begin its Yard Waste recycling program on April 7th continuing until October 31st.  Specific requirements of the program can be found in the annual Residential Waste and Recycling Information  booklet and on the City website (http://www.newrochelleny.com/pyard.asp).  Residents are responsible for making sure that their gardeners comply with the Department’s requirements.

The Department strongly encourages the use of separate 32-gallon containers to aid in the collection of yard waste and to eliminate problems encountered in the past.

Common problems experienced by the Department during 2007 are as follows:

  1. Yard Waste put out for collection on the wrong day.
  2. Yard Waste put out for collection in plastic bags
  3. Yard Waste left loose by the curb, branches not tied, etc
  4. Garbage/trash mixed with yard waste
  5. The City does not collect dirt, stones, logs (greater than 3” in diameter) or bags/containers weighing more than 75 lbs.
  6. Yard Waste put out for collection after 7:00 am

Residents not complying with the Department requirements will receive notice via orange or green notification stickers placed on the Yard waste. The sticker will explain why the Department did not collect the items put out for yard waste collection.

The use of 32-gallon containers is a means for compliance for those residents who have their yards cleaned/cut on days other than those preceding their collection day.  Wheeled watertight containers with sturdy handles should be stored on the property and wheeled to the curb on the morning of the scheduled collection day.

The type of containers preferred by the Department can be obtained locally at Modern Hardware located at 316 Huguenot Street or at The Home Depot located at the corner of Weyman Avenue and Nardozzi Place.
