Properties with Flooding Issues

If you have recently experienced flooding issues and you feel your property value has been affected, this can be addressed in two ways:

  1. If a property is damaged to the point where its market value would be affected and the damage will not be repaired by May 1st (taxable status date), the owner can contact the assessor’s office in April so an inspection of the property can be arranged.
  2. If a property owner feels their assessed value is incorrect due to a chronic flooding issue, the property owner can file a complaint form with the Board of Assessment Review between June 1st and the third Tuesday in June each year.  The owner would have to show that the indicated market value we have on the property is incorrect and illustrate that the flooding issue is an ongoing condition.  The indicated market value changes each year, this number can be checked with the assessor’s office in May.

If you have any additional questions, you can contact the Assessor’s Office at (914) 654-2052.
