Stormwater Mitigation

In the face of more frequent rain events caused by climate change, coupled with an aging stormwater infrastructure, the City of New Rochelle engaged consultants in 2022 for a Citywide Drainage Study to analyze flooding issues in its six watershed districts.

The links at left detail the history and background of the study, the consultants' Final Drainage Study Reports, and resources for property owners

To address and mitigate flooding issues, the City is committed to an overall programmatic approach, thorough four consistent improvement categories: Surface Improvements, System Capacity, Green Infrastructure and Riverine Improvement. In fall 2023, 170 mitigation projects were identified at a total estimated construction value of over $350 million. Key components include enhanced stormwater maintenance, mini-drainage projects, major capital improvements and intermunicipal coordination. View the Stormwater Mitigation Program presentation. As projects begin in spring 2024, details will be added.
