The New Rochelle Fire Department (NRFD) employs new recruits in accordance to hiring procedures established under both Federal and New York State Civil Service Law. To be eligible to be hired by the NRFD a potential employee must pass the New York State Fire Fighter Civil Service Exam as given by the New Rochelle Civil Service Commission.
A potential recruit’s exam result will place in an eligibility list, which is then given to the NRFD to be used to fill vacancies.
These exams are given approximately every four (4) years. The last one occurred in 2019.
