2016 New Rochelle Police Department Annual Report Released

City Remains a Top Safest Regionally and Nationally

The City of New Rochelle retains the lowest crime rate among similar municipalities in Westchester County and New York State, according to the 2016 Annual Report released today by the New Rochelle Police Department.

In 2016, the department responded to over 52,000 calls for service. Incorporated in the annual report were Part I crime statistics for 2016, showing the lowest Part 1 Crimes since 1961, especially an overall decrease in Burglaries (15%) and an increase in burglary arrests of 19%.  Larceny is at the lowest rate in 23 years. Nationally, in 2015 New Rochelle ranked in the top 20 for safe cities with populations of 80,000 to 99,999.

“We are very gratified that the low crime rate continues for New Rochelle” said New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll. “We are especially proud that our policing and education efforts have reduced burglaries, and increased burglary arrests.”

The report also details programs implemented in 2016, including the Red Light Camera program, an initiative to increase safety at some of the City’s busiest intersections. In addition, six officers were certified as instructors of the Youth Police Initiative (YPI) where they conducted four five-day sessions with City youth.
