To coincide with National
Police Week (May 14-20) the New Rochelle Police Department will host
their annual Memorial & Awards Ceremony at 9:00 am on Wednesday,
May 17th at the Greentree Country Club. City officials,
law enforcement officials, and families will gather Wednesday morning to pay
tribute to NRPD officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and recognize
the accomplishments of over 100 members of the department. Three New Rochelle
elementary students will receive awards for their winning Police Memorial
Essays.
This year’s keynote speaker
will be retired NYC Homicide Detective Randy Jurgensen, who is best
known as the lead investigator into the murder of NYPD Patrolman Phil Cardillo.
He is also the recipient of the Gold Shield for breaking a case that
became known as the Bag Murders. Today he is involved in movie making,
producing, and acting, and is the author of Circle of Six, a book
written about Cardillo’s murder.
