[ARCHIVED] New Rochelle Partners with The Business Council of Westchester to Expand Retail Footprint

New Rochelle Partners with The Business Council of Westchester to Expand Retail Footprint

Enhancing the scope and reach of its retail recruitment efforts, the City of New Rochelle is partnering with The Business Council of Westchester (BCW) to capitalize on market leads provided by customer analytics experts Buxton Co.

Earlier this year, the City retained Buxton to help identify potential retailers prime for relocation to New Rochelle.  Since that time, Buxton’s advanced consumer analytics and proprietary web-based real estate platform SCOUT has been evaluating the best companies for the community based on the shopping and dining habits of nearby residents and patrons. New Rochelle will assess these retail matches and support development decisions by applying consumer insights that go beyond demographics; presenting a convincing case to retailers seeking growth opportunities. The added partnership with The Business Council of Westchester will amplify the New Rochelle opportunity within a broader business community.

“New Rochelle is poised for growth and The Business Council of Westchester is ready to help bring dynamic and varied businesses into the community,” says The Business Council of Westchester’s President and CEO, Dr. Marsha Gordon.

New Rochelle’s recruitment effort will enhance retail growth as part of the City’s ambitious redevelopment plan, which includes the rezoning of 279 prime acres around its train station and its downtown area. This unprecedented construction initiative was launched in 2015 with the signing of a Master Development agreement with RDRXR – a joint venture of RXR Realty and Renaissance Downtowns LLC – and will include up to 2.4 million square feet of prime office space, one million square feet of retail, 6,370 housing units and 1,200 hotel rooms. With the total build-out of the downtown core totaling 12 million square feet, one million square feet will be dedicated solely to retail space, which will help round out the city’s diverse offerings.

“With our redevelopment well underway, New Rochelle is distinguishing itself as the ideal place to ‘live, work and grow’. We are eager to connect with retailers seeking opportunities to expand,” said Mayor Noam Bramson.

About the City of New Rochelle

Located 30 minutes outside Manhattan, New Rochelle is home to nearly 80,000 residents. With an unparalleled location, superb quality of life, diverse and talented residents and a focused business climate, New Rochelle is experiencing the transformation of a lifetime. The City’s economic development plan will provide a spark for the entire Hudson Valley region, positioning it as “open for business” and embracing smart, transit-oriented development growth patterns. Accelerated by a new, fast-track zoning process, the new Master Development initiative will enhance the downtown area by boosting job creation, property values and private investment – while enhancing sustainability through green and energy-efficient design.
