As of May 1, 2015, all new homeowners in New Rochelle are encouraged to register for STAR Credit Checks with the State by July 1, 2018. If qualified, eligible applicants will receive a STAR credit in the form of a check rather than a property tax exemption. The dollar value of the credit will be the same as the exemption program.

STAR is the New York State School Tax Assessment Relief program that provides an exemption on a portion of school property taxes, or a rebate check for owners purchasing after May 1, 2015, for owner-occupied, primary residences.

This registration is for new homeowners only. Homeowners currently receiving STAR do not need to re-register, with the exception of senior homeowners 65 years of age or older in the Enhanced STAR program who are required to apply annually.
