City of New Rochelle, Town of Mamaroneck Partner to Repair Iconic Bridge

A joint project between the City of New Rochelle and Town of Mamaroneck will give new life to a beloved local bridge. The Pryer Manor Road bridge is part of Pryer Manor Road, a two lane, two-way residential roadway over the tidal waters of Premium River at its junction with Premium Mill Pond. These waterways form the boundary between the Village of Larchmont (Town of Mamaroneck) to the east and the City of New Rochelle to the west. The date of the original construction of the bridge is unknown but a major rehabilitation was performed nearly 30 years ago in the early 1990’s. Due to the tidal action, the arched openings have deteriorated and are subject to continued corrosion.

“Beyond being a necessary investment in infrastructure and safety, this project illustrates that a strong partnership between New Rochelle and Mamaroneck can deliver value and efficiency for our residents and taxpayers,” said New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson.

“I’m glad the Town of Mamaroneck has another opportunity to work with the City of New Rochelle to share services in the repair of Red Bridge,” said Mamaroneck Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson. “Red Bridge is an important spot in the Town for its beauty and viewshed. We have to keep it safe and sturdy”.

The major work of the rehabilitation project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the remaining work in the spring, conditions permitting. It will provide repairs to the abutments and arches, seal the transverse deck joints, repair/replacement of the ornamental concrete endposts and clean and paint the concrete parapets and deck overhang. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $500,000.
