The City of New Rochelle is proud of its founding by Huguenots from La Rochelle, France, and its ongoing relationship with the City of La Rochelle, led and cultivated over the years by the Sister City Committee and its Convenor, Peter Korn.

In 2013, La Rochelle's City Hall suffered great damage due to a fire. Extensive work has been done to rehabilitate the structure and a celebration commemorating its re-opening will take place on December 6, 7 & 8, 2019. The Mayor of La Rochelle, Jean-Francois Fountaine, has invited a delegation from the City to participate and City Council Member/Deputy Mayor Barry Fertel will be heading up the group. The City is seeking community input from those interested in making this trip. Delegates will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.
