[ARCHIVED] Coronavirus Update- March 6

Updates as of March 6:

-The City continues to follow New York State and  Westchester County Department of Health guidelines. Updates will be sent as needed via robocall/text and email. Sign up now at www.newrochelleny.com/newroalert. The City’s website contains the latest information including a special information page newrochelleny.com/coronavirus

-New York State has a dedicated toll-free information hotline (888) 364-3065 For general information, call the Westchester County/United Way information line at 211.

-New Rochelle City Hall and other public facilities are being cleaned daily, with special care taken to disinfecting surfaces. City staff has been informed of health and safety protocol and sanitizer is available at every public counter. City Manager Chuck Strome noted, “We are taking cautionary measures in our public buildings and throughout all of our service departments. Because this situation is evolving, we are putting plans in place to meet the challenge if a growing need arises.” This weekend, City Hall, Police Headquarters and the Courts Facility will undergo enhanced disinfectant treatment.

- LAZ Parking has implemented the MTA’s enhanced cleaning protocol for the New Roc Garage and Intermodal Transportation Center, including elevators, pay stations, and door handles. Patrons are encouraged to continue taking preventative actions of their own, including frequent hand washing, avoiding touching their eyes, nose and mouth, and staying home when sick. Circuit shuttles are also incorporating enhanced cleaning.

- City departments, including New Rochelle Police and Fire Departments have reviewed infectious exposure response protocols as have our ambulance providers.

-At this time, although certain individuals are under Health Department quarantine, there have been no restrictions in place that limit public gatherings, shopping or dining. As Mayor Bramson noted in the robocall sent citywide yesterday, “This is a significant and fast-evolving challenge for our community, but it’s important not to panic.  Public Health experts remind us that the majority of people who contract coronavirus will recover without incident and only a small fraction will experience life-threatening circumstances. The City will continue coordinating with State and County public health authorities in order to assist their efforts.  And we urge all residents to stand together in support of neighbors, demonstrating that New Rochelle can face this challenge calmly and seriously.”
