[ARCHIVED] City Update March 19

UPDATE March 19:

Many residents have asked about the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Rochelle. With improved reporting and in the interest of transparency, the City will begin posting and periodically updating a count on our website at newrochelleny.com/coronavirus, along with any other news and relevant information.

We urge caution in interpreting the numbers. A higher number does not necessarily mean the virus is spreading, but rather that it is being detected. Because thousands of tests are now being conducted, the number will continue to rise, even if no new person contracts COVID-19.

The data are sufficient to demonstrate that New Rochelle is declining as a percentage of confirmed cases in Westchester, which indicates that our early quarantine and social distancing measures have been effective.

As a reminder:

-City Hall remains closed, but departments continue to provide live phone support including Buildings, City Clerk. Assessment, Tax and Human Resources

-The New York State hotline number is (888) 364-3065. The County’s Health Department has more information at health.westchestergov.com
