[ARCHIVED] City Partners with Volunteer New York! to Strengthen Community Response to Coronavirus

To help mobilize and coordinate the outstanding work of local agencies, not-for-profits, and volunteers, the City of New Rochelle has partnered with Volunteer New York! to bring on a full-time Director of Community Engagement.

“Our City is blessed with a wealth of community agencies, service providers, and houses of worship, not to mention thousands of talented and dedicated residents, all of whom are ready and eager to do their part and many of whom are already working hard. With additional guidance and coordination, each of us will be in the best position to assist our neighbors, especially the most vulnerable,” said New Rochelle Noam Bramson.

“Volunteer New York! will use our experience and resources in volunteer management to listen to New Rochelle’s needs in response to the coronavirus and develop plans to direct support where it can be applied safely,“ said Executive Director Alisa Kesten. “There is much uncertainty, but one thing we know: by finding ways to support one another we will emerge more tightly connected than ever before.”

Julie Konvisser of Volunteer New York! will serve as New Rochelle’s Director of Community Engagement, and in the days and weeks ahead will evaluate local service needs and capacity, foster better communication among partners, and recommend tools and options to make a difference. The City has set up an email address for ideas and suggestions: NewRoStrong@newrochelleny.com

“We’ve never faced anything like this before, but remember that none of us is facing it alone,” Bramson concluded. “Even separated physically, we can stand together in spirit and prove just how strong and resilient New Rochelle truly is.”
