New Ro Cheers goes out to all the community members making masks during the pandemic. Some mask makers are sewing on their own and donating masks to friends and neighbors such as 70- year old Nolette Marc. Other mask makers are participating in a large, County-wide effort called MasksforNY. Amy Jackson is serving as the hub for New Rochelle participants in MasksforNY. MasksforNY provides many ways for the public to participate – from donating fabric (they currently need 100% cotton navy blue and black fabrics, such as from sheets and tablecloths, for the masks they are making for New Rochelle’s Police and Fire departments), cutting fabric squares, sewing masks, and making deliveries. Sewers are in high demand – and they even have sewing machine loaners if you do not you’re your own. Organizations in need of masks should go to their web site to put in their request. HOPE Community Services and the New Rochelle Community Action Partnership are just two of the organizations that have both benefited from masks made by participating neighbors here in New Rochelle. Check out MasksforNY.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
