On November 1st at about 8:53 p.m., New Rochelle Police Officers responded to a private residence on First Street in regard to a dog biting incident.
Upon arrival, Officers located an injured victim, a 25-year-old male and owner of the dogs, who had sustained small puncture wounds to his right hand and both lower legs. The victim advised he and his girlfriend, who was still inside, own 5 pit bull dogs and that one was fighting the others. He advised that while trying to separate the dogs, he was bitten multiple times. Furthermore, he advised that prior to exiting the premise to meet up with Officers, he was able to place his girlfriend out of harm’s way and inside one of the bedrooms. The victim was transported by Ambulance to New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital.
While on scene, Officers were able to climb up a fire escape located adjacent to the north side of the building, breach a side window and subsequently noose one of the pit bull dogs. This enabled the girlfriend to escape via one of the front windows, where Officers had a ladder set up for her rescue. She was helped down without further incident.
The Humane Society was notified and responded to the scene. They were able to secure all 5 pit bull dogs, which were subsequently taken to be placed in confinement for 10 days.
