The New Rochelle City Council unanimously adopted the NYStretch Energy Code - 2020 (NYStretch) at their April 20 meeting. The code seeks to foster future development in a manner that protects public health, and meets energy and climate goals.
NYStretch aligns with New Rochelle’s ongoing sustainability efforts, which include NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities and NYSDEC Climate Smart Communities. It also assists in meeting the goals set forth in GreeNR, the City’s sustainability plan.
““The Stretch code significantly improves building efficiency, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and results in long-term financial savings,” said Mayor Noam Bramson. “By taking this important step, New Rochelle reaffirms its environmental leadership and positions our City to compete more effectively for both State grants and green private investment."
Also adopted by City Council was the creation of a full time Sustainability Coordinator position, which will aid the City in securing and managing grants, coordinating initiatives between departments and partner organizations, and assisting City advisory committees including Energize and Ecology and Natural Resources Committee (ENRAC).
