[ARCHIVED] Storm Recovery and Fireworks reminder

This is the City of New Rochelle with a storm recovery and events update for Friday, September 3rd.

The City remains primarily focused on storm recovery efforts, which are ongoing.  However, we do want to remind residents that our annual fireworks display, postponed from July 4th, will take place tonight at the New Rochelle waterfront.

The Fireworks by Grucci begin at 9:30pm this evening, with good viewing from Hudson and Five Islands Parks.  Just before and after the fireworks, nearby streets will be closed to cars so that pedestrians can walk safely, and parking in the area will be limited, so please plan ahead.   This event will follow the CDC's safety guidelines. We strongly encourage residents to wear a mask and, of course, to get vaccinated.

Unfortunately, the lighted boat parade scheduled for tomorrow night has been cancelled because of storm impacts.

Regarding storm recovery, all local roads are now clear and passable.  About half of those impacted by power outages have had electricity restored, and we expect more to come on line today and through the weekend.   Con Ed is distributing dry ice today until 8pm at two locations:  Larchmont on Vine Street at Myrtle Boulevard and in Yonkers at Andrus Park.

Next week follows a holiday collection schedule.  Due to the storm, bulk trash can be placed curbside for pickup on Tuesday in the North End and Wednesday in the South End.   Please note that some items, such as refrigerators, electronics, and bulk metal require special arrangements or scheduled pickups.  Visit newrochelleny.com/DPW for the RecycleRight portal or call 914-235-4654 for more information.

The City is advocating for a federal disaster declaration and will share information about potential assistance if and when such a declaration is made.  For now, residents are encouraged to document losses by taking photos and keeping receipts.

As always, more information is available on the City website or on our social media accounts.
