Winter-appropriate clothing is a basic necessity, yet for many children in Westchester, it is a luxury their families struggle to provide. Over 60,000 Westchester children live in low-income homes, with 36% of public school children qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. For these children, winter clothing is often financially out of reach.
In the spirit of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, donations of NEW winter clothing—adult sizes only— are now being collected to help New Rochelle teens stay warm this winter. Items include:
- New hats & gloves
- New leggings
- New joggers/sweatpants
- New underwear & athletic socks
- Adult sizes only. Men's clothing is especially needed!
There are four donation box locations:
- New Rochelle High School (office of Maria Morris) 265 Clove Road New Rochelle, NY 10801
- New Rochelle City Hall (back entrance) 515 North Avenue New Rochelle, NY 10801
- Mikey Dubbs Frozen Custard 1282 North Avenue, Wykagyl Shopping Center New Rochelle, NY 10804
- BuddahBooth 200 Fifth Avenue Pelham, NY 10803
In partnership with the Sharing Shelf, the City of New Rochelle will help provide these clothing essentials to teens in need the week of January 20. For more information on this and other volunteer opportunities visit the Volunteer New York! website.
