New Rochelle Celebrates Women's History Month With Community Brunch and Programming

IMG_9011

Wednesday morning, celebrating Women’s History Month and the incredible impact of the city’s female leaders and community members, the City of New Rochelle teamed up with the City’s Hispanic American Advisory Committee, the African American Advisory Committee, and local organizations and non-profits to recognize the amazing senior women that call New Rochelle home.

The celebratory “Her Story” event brought women together from across the City of New Rochelle for a delicious brunch accompanied by personal bouquet-making stations, exciting music, and an array of community programming aimed to support the senior community and their needs. Those in attendance were invited to record their own histories through “ULU Story” initiative, designed to capture the special memories and stories of the women who have helped make New Rochelle a wonderful place to live and work. Mayor Noam Bramson, City Council Member Martha Lopez-Hanratty, City Manager Kathleen Gill, and NRMHA Executive Director Angela Farrish joined the festivities.

“Thanks to the devotion and dedication of our community members and local organizations, our city’s elderly population is continuously supported,” said Council Member Martha Lopez.  “And through such programming and events as the Her Story brunch, we celebrate the women who have made New Rochelle a wonderful place to live, work, and grow.”

“Over the years, the women of New Rochelle have dramatically shaped our future through local involvement and dedication to community and family” said Kathleen Gill, City Manager for the City of New Rochelle. “I am proud to join in today’s celebration that recognizes their contribution and their value.”

Local non-profits and community organizations were on hand to provide information on their products and services including   Feeding Westchester, Hope Community Services, Montefiore New Rochelle Breast Center, New Rochelle Office for the Aging, New Rochelle Police Department, Schaffer Extended Care Center, Westchester County Senior Services, and Montefiore Diamond Care.

The event was sponsored by Monarch Coopers Corner, The Cappelli Organization, Wilder Balter Partners, Allstate Ventures, and Montefiore New Rochelle.
