The New York National Guard in collaboration with the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), will present a New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Emergency Preparedness Workshop on Tuesday, September 26, at 6:00 pm at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza. This essential workshop aims to equip residents with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively prepare for severe weather events and other emergencies, respond appropriately in crisis situations, and recover swiftly.
With severe weather events becoming more frequent and extreme, it is crucial that area residents are well-prepared to face these disasters. The Citizen Preparedness Corps program, designed by Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), was developed to ensure that New York State residents have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster.
Key components of the program include:
Family Emergency Planning: Participants will receive guidance on creating a family emergency plan tailored to their unique circumstances, ensuring that everyone in their household knows what to do when disaster strikes.
Emergency Supplies: Attendees will learn how to stock up on essential emergency supplies, ensuring they have the necessary resources to endure a crisis, with a particular focus on preparing for severe weather events.
“New Rochelle residents have been impacted by severe weather events, such as storms and floods, in the past, and know very well the tremendous damage they can cause,” said Tom Geoffino, Director, New Rochelle Public Library. “As an information hub for the community, the Library is offering this workshop to help empower individuals to respond to severe weather events and other crises with confidence.”
