[ARCHIVED] Green Tip of the Week No. 171

7.5% of our waste stream consists of plastic film such as supermarket bags. Large supermarkets are now required by law to recycle plastic bags. Remember to bring your own bags with you; it really does make a difference!
“Type 2” and “Type 4” bags can be recycled (the type of plastic is sometimes printed on the bag). Recyclables include:
• grocery bags
• newspaper bags
• bread bags
• dry cleaning film
• packaging for toilet paper and paper towels
• retail bags with hard plastic and string handles removed
• bags with sealed air for packaging
