The City of New Rochelle in partnership with Montefiore New Rochelle and Metro Pool (511NYRideShare) will celebrate the City’s first Walk to Work Day on April 29, and Bike to Work Day on May 20.
These initiatives promote healthy, sustainable forms of transportation and to emphasize the need to share the road for pedestrian and cyclist safety. All New Rochelle residents and businesses are encouraged to participate.
“Walk to Work and Bike to Work events are designed to celebrate sustainable transportation modes, and to recognize those who have integrated these commutes into their daily lives,” said Nina Arron, Director of Planning and Sustainability at the City of New Rochelle.
Walking is not only a great way to get to know your community, but it also offers various health and monetary benefits. Like walking, bicycling is another feasible and fun way to get to work. The Bike to Work event in May coincides with National Bike Month.
Montefiore New Rochelle, the City of New Rochelle and 511NYRideshare will showcase the many benefits of bicycling and walking at a pop-up expo at the corner of North and Huguenot from 7:00am - 9:30am both days. Walkers and cyclists can stop on their way to work to pick up a goody bag donated by local businesses.
Walkers and Bicyclists can share their photos on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram using the hashtag #NRWalks and #NRBikes.
